The Portland Shop Symposium isn’t a job fair or job panel but these are definitely the kinds of people to network with and learn from. This is especially true if you can provide services that local retailers and entrepreneurs are looking for (sales jobs, creative jobs, service jobs).
From Shop Symposium:

35 Local Business Leaders Join to Educate Business Owners
Second Annual SHOP Symposium for Portland Retailers and Entrepreneurs
Tickets are still available to the second annual SHOP Symposium, a one-day conference for small business owners and entrepreneurs looking to draw an edge in what may seem an over-saturated market. Like last year’s selling-out SHOP/08 (touted as “fabulous”, “uplifting” and having “contagious energy”), Portland’s unique SHOP Symposium is a forum fit to educate and equip Portland’s business-minded individuals, with 35 leaders in the Portland business community speaking on panel, adding to a lively, educationally rich dialogue followed by an audience-approved Q & A. Portland is one of the cities often mentioned when people speak about the “Creative Class” and the “Creative Economy”. Many people work in creative jobs here and others move here for these types of careers and to live near other creative professionals.
On Wednesday, you can see four of the leaders in Portland’s creative community and learn how you can work and participate in these fields.
From Vizwerks:
Vizwerks is taking part in a panel discussion called “Working in the Creative Economy” featuring Susan Hoffman (Executive Creative Director at Wieden+Kennedy), Steve Potestio (Managing Director at 52 Limited), Randy Higgins (Creative Director at Vizwerks) and Jolie Giese (General Manager at Nau).
The event was organized by University of Oregon – Portland Library and Learning Commons, Career Center and Portland Student Action Council as way of connecting establish creatives with up-and-coming talent. It’s the first official U of O event at the newly opened White Stag building.

In these economic times, many people are discovering that using social media tools can be highly valuable to network, research, and find career opportunities.
A few months back, I started a
twitter account (@pdxjobs) to syndicate good & interesting jobs I found across the net. Luckily, we live a great community here in Portland and many people have helped. From the beginning, other PDXers were sending me jobs to post. KGW even had me/@pdxjobs on “Live at 7″ to help people find jobs.
If you are on twitter, I hope @PDXJobs helps you. Also, send me jobs you find, retweet it & use #pdxjobs hash-tag so others can follow jobs across the search timeline.
Because jobs range a great deal, I created a few others that cater only to certain fields. They aren’t quite running yet but, they will within a week so follow them if you are looking for jobs in these fields
